Preview of a delayed Hot Rods & Horsepower Show & Swapmeet

Hosted by Pukekohe Hot Rod Club and Napa Auto Parts Dragway

Like most things which haven’t been cancelled totally by Covid restrictions imposed by our government, the Hot Rods & Horsepower Show hosted by Pukekohe Hot Rod Club & Napa Auto Parts Dragway has been delayed. The new date will be the weekend of the 14th-15th May. After dealing with Covid restrictions for the past couple of years, it is great for the show to finally go ahead.

“Much planning has gone into the event, not to mention the commitment of our many event sponsors”, says Pukekohe Hot Rod Club president Trevor Williams. Traditionally, the event is the best of the best on display and it attracts visitors from all over the country (pre Covid of course). “We all need this to happen to have something to look forward to and enjoy while showcasing the best of the Pukekohe Hot Rod Club and Napa Auto Parts Dragway”.

Many new cars are slated to be displayed to the public for the very first time in New Zealand including Michael Franklin’s Nostalgia Nitro Funny car based on the classic 1957 Chev. New this year is the addition of the club’s annual swap meet on Saturday 14th May. Usually at the drag strip but cancelled due to Covid, the annual swap meet will be held at the Hot Rod & Horsepower Show on the Saturday only. Gates open at 7am for this one and swap sites are $15. Combining the two events will attract more people to enjoy a wider range of great things to do and see making for an action packed day. “This year’s show is focussed on showcasing to the public the family orientated hobby of hot rodding and the sport of drag racing we enjoy”, says Trevor Williams. “We are a community spirited club and here is our showcase to the community”.

If you like the sound of this and get along to the Indian Hall over the weekend of 14th & 15th May and you like what you see then you may wish to join the Pukekohe Hot Rod Club? Membership requirement is to have an interest in in Hot Rodding or Drag Racing, and club activities and if you do have a car the Pukekohe Hot Rod Club has an open policy in which the vehicles are mainly American origin, drag cars or vehicles of interest. Show hours run from 9am to 10pm on Saturday and 9am to 4pm on Sunday. Admission is $10 and children under 15 are free. Food, refreshments and bar facilities are also available.
