There are numerous people being treated for high Cholesterol Levelswith drugs shared under the name of Statins. These medicines lower the body’s production of Cholesterol, but Statins don’t only inhibit cholesterol synthesis. They also inhibit the body’s synthesis of coenzyme Q10. This is not a “side effect” of statins, but a direct, inherent function of the drugs.
In fact, the use of statins can decrease the body’s synthesis of coenzyme Q10 by as much as 40%.
Why is this so important?
CoenzymeQ10 (coQ10) is an essential component of the mitochondria, playing a critical role in the formation of ATP, the body’s fundamental energy unit, from carbohydrate and fatty acid metabolism.
Lower supply of coQ10 in our bodies will lead to noticeable tiredness, as all muscles, including the heart, will not be able to produce sufficient levels of energy.
When you are on statin medication, you may improve your energy substantially by supplementing coQ10 and prevent energy loss.
Trials have shown supplementation with 150 to 200 mg coQ10 per day gave remarkable increase in energy.
coQ10 is available from 30 mg per capsule to 150 mg.
