It was a marriage made in heaven: George and Mildred were an inseparable, loving couple – of geese. Geese mate for life, so it was a devastating blow for George when Mildred met an untimely end on the Carey family farm. But true love appeared twice for George, in the form of Ann. Since the love sick gander attached himself to Ann, he taps on the kitchen door first thing in the morning as soon as the lights go on, ready to follow her around all day and waits for the sound of her car when she comes home from work.
The only competition in this story of true love is… a silver bucket. George can see his reflection in the bottom of the bucket and will tip water out to better see his elusive belle. Perhaps he thinks it’s Mildred and scolds her: “Is that where you’ve been hiding?”
The million dollar question is: Who does George love best – Ann or bucket? Much is revealed in a crisis. When a wheelbarrow tyre was overfilled and exploded with a huge bang next to George, he made a rapid goose-line - straight to his bucket to hide his head. Which proves the old saying… ‘Love is True but Birds of a Feather Must Flock Together.’
Or perhaps he’s just a wily old bird who knows where to take cover when the sky is falling…
