V8 Supercars - WE MISS YOU ........wow what a weekend. Sadly, like 2009, the flames were reserved for the NZ V8 class...those Supercars just don't look and sound the same running that green fuel. I'm a petrolhead, I want fumes, noise and flames - FAIR GO!!
Jamie Wincup was his normal self...at the front. Like a few other petrolheads, I am amazed, but not...you take a winning formula and change the badge, and it keeps winning...i.e 888 racing FORD to HOLDEN conversion - well done guys!
The atmosphere was not as electric as I remember it in '08 and '09, but that might be directly attributed to the number of attendees. Friday and Saturday was simply dead, but Sunday certainly picked up...as a photographer, many of the good shots were simply spoilt by empty stands and lack lustre attendance. There were many photographers making the same comments, and yes I could "superimpose" the '09 crowd....but that's not cricket, is it!
The Kiwi contingent just did not fire - Jason Richards, Greg Murphy and Shane Van Gisbergen proved they had the pace, but could not convert...bad luck guys...but I don't know if media sets a too-high expectation, and commitments just take the focus away, but it is disappointing none the less. Or am I just reminiscing on Murph's dominance of Pukekohe..??
