Thank You to Bunnings for Upgrading the Wilderness Area at Karaka Playcentre

with Karaka Playcentre

On Friday 17 July 2020, Karaka Playcentre were extremely lucky to have Bunnings transform their wilderness area through the Bunnings community support programme.

Bunnings is committed to participating in the communities in which they operate by contributing to local, regional and national causes, charities and organisations throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The south facing wilderness area at Karaka Playcentre has required some much-needed TLC for many years. With lots of imagination, determination and financial support, it took just one day for a group of over 10 hardworking Bunnings team members from across Auckland to turn the garden into an adventurous sensory playground for the tamarki of Karaka Playcentre.

The new garden includes many highlights such as tyre stepping stones and logs for the children to play on, waterproof and re-roofed whare, bright coloured and fragrant new plants, a living herb wall, an outdoor fire pit and new pathways to name just a few of the incredible new features.

The children are loving the new garden, especially the pathways that feature pebbles, pavers, logs, grass plants – this new garden has created much interest, providing for holistic development and opportunity for outdoor exploration.

Karaka Playcentre is a semi-rural playcentre, meaning that their members and families are drawn from a number of nearby areas including rural areas. Raising children in a rural environment can be an isolating experience. Karaka Playcentre links these families together, so that they can support one another in the important task of raising our children.

On behalf of the Karaka Playcentre whanau, thank you Bunnings for the enormous effort, donation and incredible outcome turning the centres outdoor wilderness area into a magical play space for the children of Karaka Playcentre.

With a focus on child-led learning, Karaka Playcentre offers a variety of learning and play experiences based around their interests. Come and play and visit our new wilderness area or pop in for a cuppa to discover what Playcentre is all about – we offer 3 free visits and are open Monday to Friday 9.15am – 12.15pm.
