“The people of Papakura have warmed to us very quickly,” says Richard. “They've given us the thumbs up judging by the volume of work we're getting.”
Having local support means a lot to the Wicketts.
“We've lived in and around Papakura for over 25 years. Our children have gone to local schools, we've been involved in local soccer, netball, squash, cricket and other sports, and we love the area. It's great to see the town progressing, with more activity, new shops, new places to dine. Things are picking up and we're delighted to be part of it.”
While the phenomenal housing growth around the district has helped keep Flooring Xtra busy, Richard says the bulk of their work is in refurbishing existing homes, retail and commercial buildings.
“We are part of New Zealand’s largest flooring retail brand with over 57 stores nationwide, giving customers access to a huge choice of carpet and hard surfaces including vinyl, timber, laminate and bamboo at competitive prices.”
“The range of products is constantly expanding and our shop display is always changing to reflect this – so it pays to call in and check out what we have on offer.”
Trish and Richard have noticed changing trends in flooring.
“There's been an increase in demand for hard flooring – it's not confined to kitchens and bathrooms any more. Carpet is mostly used in bedrooms and lounges now, and garages.
“Carpeting your garage with specialised indoor/outdoor carpet can transform it into anything from a playroom to party central. Garage carpet vacuums easily, it's hard-wearing, and when you drive your car on to it on a cold winter's night you can step out on to a comfortable non-slip surface.”
The choice of hard flooring is now very extensive – just as well Trish and Richard are on hand to provide guidance.
“We have cork tiles, bamboo, laminates, timber, engineered wood, vinyl plank, luxury looselay vinyl plank/tiles – and of course sheet vinyl. Forget about boring lino though; our sheet vinyl has many different styles and patterns. You can get any look you like – rustic wood, concrete, textured, geometric patterns, even a leather look. The options are unlimited. Best of all, we carry a large range of 2m wide vinyl stock at very good prices.”
“You can choose carpet to tone in, or you can add some pizzazz with a rug. We have an outstanding selection of hand-made Furtex rugs with a luxurious feel and beautiful patterns – we call them 'floor candy'. Browse through the range on www.flooringxtra.co.nz and if we don't have it in stock, we'll get it. You can even choose pillows and throws to dress up your couch or bed.”
If carpet is your caper, Flooring Xtra Papakura has plenty to choose from, and either Richard, Trish, Glenn or Sharon can guide you through the process with their extensive knowledge from years in the flooring business.
“Traditional wool carpet is beautiful; there's so much choice in texture and feel. It's a natural product, hypoallergenic, fire resistant and eco-friendly right down to its jute backing - it can end its life in your garden as mulch.
“It's made here in New Zealand, for New Zealand conditions and UV stabilised for our sun. We stock all leading brands, Cavalier/Norman Ellison, Godfrey Hirst, Feltex, Victoria Carpets.”
“We also have a huge range of synthetic carpets which are cost effective and wear exceptionally well. For families, flats or commercial applications the Irvine premium range of solution dyed nylon carpets can't be beaten. They're practically indestructible, stain and fade proof, and if you do have a stubborn stain you can remove it with a solution of diluted Janola. They come in a terrific palette of colours and there's a 25 year warranty.”
“Flooring can be a substantial investment in your home,” says Trish. “You live with it for a long time, so we really want our customers to be able to choose the right product for them and find the best value for their money.”
