Excellence Recognised

with Pukekohe High School

Pukekohe High School senior students have again earned a significant number of valuable tertiary scholarships for study in the years ahead.

The range of financial grants from many tertiary providers totals well over six figures allowing these students a sound financial start to their academic pathway. In each case they recognise the hard work and application displayed at secondary school.

One thoroughly deserving recipient is year 13 student Jenna Lowe. Jenna has consistently maintained an excellence level throughout her three years of NCEA study. As a consequence, Jenna has earned the Te Paewai o te Rangi: The University of Waikato Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement (2021) valued up to $25,000.

The scholarship recognises more than academic achievement. Candidates must not only achieve NCEA Level 2 with Excellence (or equivalent), they must show “exceptional leadership qualities and/or be actively involved in community initiatives”. Jenna has contributed significantly to service and leadership at Pukekohe High School. She is a talented sportsperson demonstrating skill over a wide range of codes, including football where she is the First Eleven co-captain. At the recent Year 13 Awards Evening Jenna was the recipient of the Ken Hemopo Award for Outstanding Leadership Contribution. In all endeavours her manner and sensitive empathy for others has been exemplary.

Jenna has decided to focus on a Bachelor of Business at the University of Waikato. She will major in accounting and minor in finance. Jenna is one of the most accomplished students of accounting the School has seen in recent years.

The attached photo records Campbell Tyson Director (and PHS Board member) Lincoln Sharp acknowledging Jenna as the 2020 Campbell Tyson Top Commerce Student. For decades Campbell Tyson Chartered Accountants have supported students at Pukekohe HS with careers guidance, mentoring and employment opportunities.

Pukekohe HS extends their warmest appreciation to the University of Waikato and Campbell Tyson for the tangible support offered to aspiring tertiary graduates. We hope that Jenna’s example and rewards encourage students across the Counties-Manukau school community to target high levels of academic attainment whilst concurrently being role models within their school whanau.
