Five public health reforms RFK Jr. plans to tackle as US health czar

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), has laid out an agenda to address chronic disease, corporate influence in health agencies, and America’s chemical-laden food system.

Kennedy declared, “Together we will clean up corruption, stop the revolving door between industry and government, and return our health agencies to their rich tradition of gold-standard, evidence-based science.”

Kennedy’s plans start with replacing 600 NIH employees to refocus on conditions like autism and autoimmune diseases.

He accused the CDC of serving the pharmaceutical industry and noted, “FDA’s war on public health is about to end.” He pledged to eliminate liability protections for drug companies and overhaul pharmaceutical advertising practices.

Kennedy decried ultra-processed foods and toxic additives, saying, “We are literally poisoning our children systematically for profit.” He vowed to ban junk food from school lunches and restrict food assistance spending on unhealthy products.

Despite being labelled “anti-vaccine,” Kennedy insists his focus is vaccine safety and informed consent. He promised to ensure vaccines undergo rigorous safety studies, saying, “People should have choice, and that choice should be informed by the best information possible.” He also proposed removing fluoride from drinking water.

Kennedy’s reforms aim to target what he calls the “capture” of federal health agencies. His proposals reflect a belief that addressing systemic corruption and promoting individual health choices will help “make America healthy again.”

Editor’s note: RFK Jr. was recently photographed joining the president-elect’s inner circle for a McDonald’s meal, with Donald Trump Jr. joking, “Make America Healthy Again starts TOMORROW.”
