A New Zealander accused of sharing violent extremist material and objectionable content online is now facing additional charges in Australia.

The 24-year-old was initially charged by Australian Federal Police in February, after he arrived at Perth Airport on a flight from overseas.

During a bag exam, Australian Border Force officers found videos on his phone of multiple "violent killings overseas linked to varying ideologies and videos about manufacturing home-made explosives", police said.

The Western Australia Joint Counter Terrorism Team then searched a property in Perth's CBD and seized a computer.

The man was charged with one count of possessing violent extremist material, with authorities saying investigations were ongoing.

A further charge of distributing such material was laid in March.

He now faces four additional charges - two counts of transmitting violent extremist material, one of obtaining possession of objectionable material, and one of transmitting objectionable material.

Authorities allege the man obtained the violent extremist material and objectionable material and then shared it with another user online.
