A North Shore man facing two murder charges and one charge of attempted murder can now be named after his interim name suppression lapsed. Marc Govinden is accused of murdering his parents, Raman and Rooksana Govinden, before attempting to murder his brother Andrew.

Accused Appears in High Court
Marc Govinden appeared in person at the Auckland High Court, where Justice Mathew Downs outlined the charges against him.
Govinden is accused of murdering his parents, Raman and Rooksana Govinden, and attempting to murder his brother Andrew.
Police found Andrew injured in Birkdale on 28 July and arrested Govinden at the scene.
Officers subsequently carried out a welfare check at his parents' Glenfield home, where Raman and Rooksana were found dead.
Trial Set for August 2027
Justice Downs told Govinden he would be tried in the Auckland High Court from 2 August next year, with three weeks set aside for the trial.
The judge also ordered reports concerning Govinden's health.
Because Govinden is currently unwell, Justice Downs ordered that he be remanded to a hospital or secure facility rather than prison.
The charges remain allegations. Govinden is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty.
