with Bakers Shoes & More

About six months ago, Fiona Baker from Baker’s Shoes and More was wondering how her plans to bring to Waiuku the latest styles from Europe would be tempered by the looming pandemic that was COVID-19.

Committed to making sure that her shop stocks only the very best in both style and comfort, Fiona knew that there would be new challenges to face as lockdowns and closures both loomed and morphed into actualities this year.

“Fortunately, our Winter stock had arrived in March. Boots, leather sneakers and slippers, especially slippers! were hot in demand after the initial level 4 lockdown, and the support we have received from the local community has been amazing. Our Summer stock has only been delayed slightly but in what has been a testing year, I am delighted with what is available for the upcoming season.”

Colour are focused on a natural palette of tan/taupe; khaki; orange and hues of blue says Fiona and included in that are a lovely range of neutral metallics that add a shimmer and sparkle to your Spring and Summer outfits. Pretty florals are still in the mix and useful to add contrast to the block colours appearing in fashion styles for the new season. Texture is evident in the range of animal imprints, especially snake and crocodile.

“Its great to see that despite all the upheaval that has been happening worldwide, there is still great enthusiasm for the new season and what is coming out of the fashion capitals around the world is still bright, bold and pleasingly functional” says Fiona.

Some of Baker’s Shoes and More regular suppliers have taken advantage of the trend of folks engaging in more physical activity over the lockdowns and expanded their ranges. There is a strong emphasis on lifestyle footwear such as leather sneakers and orthotic footwear and comfort shoes. Fiona has also noticed a renewed interest in Skechers, especially in their GO SMART range.

Fiona invites everyone to come into the shop at 8 Kitchener Road, in Waiuku to come and try for themselves. There is plenty of parking and Fiona’s great staff are highly trained and offer a full fitting service for the whole family.

“I am lucky to have such a great team who are dedicated to ensuring everyone gets the very best pair of shoes they are looking for. We all appreciate everyone that comes in and even more so this year. You spend a lot of time on your feet and so you need quality, function and fashion on your feet! If you can’t come in personally, or want to browse outside out normal trading hours, then check out our electronic point of sale and shopping cart on our Website.”

Fiona is very proud of the new functionality of the website, www.bakersshoes.co.nz. She estimates that she and her team, Leisa and Raewyn spend over 1200 hours working on the project and is exceptionally grateful for the huge effort they put in during the level 3 trading period.

“It has been a hugely challenging year, but I believe there is always a silver lining and with the extra time spent getting our website up to speed, it means going forward this is going to have a positive effect for Baker's Shoes & More and our customers in this new digital world we live in.”

Fiona invites you all to either visit the shop or check out the website to find out more.
