You are invited to our third StreetFEST Event on Saturday May 8th from 10am -2pm on Great South Road. This year it is being extended into Broadway in Papakura.
“We’re so excited to be holding our third StreetFEST, where we will once again be showcasing all the things that make Papakura great.” says Tracy Shackleton, Papakura Town Centre Manager. “It will be a whanau friendly event where we celebrate our town, our people and our cultural richness along with the amazing facilities and community assets that make this town unique. Our previous event was attended by over 7,000 people and had over 45 stalls. This year we’re aiming for 8,000 people and can take up to 60 stalls utilising Broadway!”
Food retailers will be offering yummy specials for the day and our shops will have market stalls out so visitors can grab a bargain. There will be plenty of entertainment too from our talented local schools and local community groups through the day so a real feast for the eyes as well as the belly! Our beloved Willie Iosia is back on board as our MC for the day. Watch out for The Big Band – part of Off Broadway Theatre and the outstanding Mind over Matter Band, along with other local artists all weaved into an outstanding entertainment schedule for the day.
Face painting, a bouncy castle, rock painting, the Counties Manukau Kindergarten Play Truck will be there along with other community groups. The Bruce Pulman park team with some of the Northern Stars, along with the Massey Park Pools, Papakura Lions, Youth Town, The Youth Council, NZ Police and the Fire Service just to name Our very own Sustainable Papakura is involved and their wonderful monthly market ladies and stalls will be located in the library and museum entrance way.
It’s shaping up to be a fabulous day in Papakura.
PAPAKURA – so much is happening
So many changes in place in the town with 28 new businesses opening up in Papakura in 2020 and already for this year we have had another 10 who have opened up in Town.
www.papakura.co.nz has undergone a refresh and Papakura now boasts 19 murals on walls and buildings around town with another two in the pipeline. With mural works done by collective groups of artists from The Corner, Pascal Atiga Bridger-Wharepapa to name a few … we are looking good and colourful and bright. Check out the beautiful planters full of flowers and the colourful painted bikes with flowers in the baskets. Combined with the murals and the new businesses there is even more reason to visit! Our Farmers building has had a fantastic makeover and with fairy lights on all major corners and on businesses throughout the town making it look magical at night.
Papakura also is home to such wonderful community facilities like the Papakura Sir Edmund Hillary Library, our fabulous Museum, the Papakura Art Gallery, Massey Park Pools, the Papakura Leisure Centre, the Hawkins Theatre and the Off Broadway Theatre and our youth space at The Corner.
