Beach Hop success!

with GMS Hot Rods

A Covid delayed Repco Beach Hop went off with great success back in November at the cool Coromandel town of Whangamata. New Zealand's largest celebration of the 50's & 60's proves to be as popular as ever with people coming from all over New Zealand as well as other parts of the world. The nearly week long event kicks off on the Wednesday at Waihi, then onto Thames on the Thursday and then Onemana on the Friday. The main parade day in Whangamata is on the Saturday and as each day passes the town comes alive to the sights and sounds of automotive culture of the 50's and 60's.

Everything from the style of cars, the music, the attire and everything is celebrated. Retro Caravans are displayed at the school, the Vintage Markets are at the Whangamata Hall and on the Saturday at the Whangamata Club is the Pre 49 Hot Rod Show. After the big day on the Saturday there are lucky entrant draws and also the top prize winners are announced. These are displayed on the Sunday as the Top Ten Shootout.

The delayed 2022 event was enjoyed by large crowds and many car enthusiasts and it's all on again in 2023. Mark your calendars for the 22nd-26th March 2023 where the Repco Beach Hop will have a staggering $50,000 cash up for grabs. Additionally, there will be all new for 2023 the King of the Hop - Australasia's biggest Elvis tribute competition. If that isn’t enough, the 2023 Repco Beach Hop also celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Model T Ford with a T-bucket display!
