Hospice Golf at the Pukekohe Golf Course

For only the second time since Rotary has been associated with Hospice Golf, the annual Golf game had to be postponed from the scheduled date, and this time it was due to the weather. Sunday the 13th of February was a shocking day; high winds which made the Pukekohe Golf Course too dangerous to play.

And so finally the event was held on Friday March 4th. Originally set down for 15th November 2021 that date was rescheduled to February due to covid. And then the wind blew that away. So, plan “C” was enacted. Due to bookings at the course the event was moved to a Friday which did mean some teams were unable to play due to work commitments however still donated their fees in appreciation of such a worthy cause. The date suited many though and teams were comparable to past events.

The conditions and grounds were perfect and even though Could restrictions meant that raffles and the auction traditionally run in the club house after the golf were moved to on the course, we had excellent support from sponsors and participants in helping raise funds for Hospice. Once again, two cars were up for the taking on par 3 holes, all that was needed to win one was a hole in one!! This time, no one was able to achieve this.

After a quick count, the Rotary Club of Drury will be giving Totara Hospice about twelve thousand dollars as a result of the day’s event. Despite the total being down on previous years under the circumstances it is still a sizable contribution that will still be gratefully received to support the excellent work of Hospice.

The Rotary Club of Drury would like to extend a big thank you to all their sponsors, players and those who organized and assisted in running this event. Events such as these can only run so smoothly and successfully with their support.

Plans are underway for a further event this year as this was really the 2021 event. A date of Friday November the 4th has been pencilled in, so if you are able to play or sponsor the event, please get in touch with the team at Rotary Drury. The aim is to make it a post Covid event to remember!
