Advertising keeps elocal free!

by Mykeljon Winckel

Ever since its inception the internet has been awash with a whole new array of descriptive terminologies and over time conceivably an entire new language has been created that includes things like MEME, LOL, IMHO, BTW. There is even a handy dandy little translator that will translate the internet language for you. ( www.transl8it.com/index.php)

It has also revolutionised the way we receive and digest our information, and this includes advertising. Gone are the days of the direct mail teaser that arrived two weeks before the launch of a spectacular minute long Television commercial and gone are the days of a twice weekly community newspaper so thick with actual local news and supported in kind by almost every business in the area.

I’m not entirely sure that the internet is entirely to blame for the state of the nation in relation to local information, but it is incredibly apparent that more and more businesses, clubs, organisations, individuals, have been forced to have some sort of online presence.

An oxymoron of sorts is that the more information you put online, the more exposed you become to all the latest technologies which these days include start-up companies like Clear view AI which have “invented a tool that could end your ability to walk down the street anonymously, and provided it to hundreds of law enforcement agencies, ranging from local cops in Florida to the F.B.I. and the Department of Homeland Security.” (www.nytimes.com/2020/01/18/ technology/clearview-privacy-facialrecognition.html)

The company was initially assisted with funding by honorary New Zealander Peter Theil so is it any wonder that our own government has been potentially connected to its ‘App’.

But I digress, I wanted this month to share with the exciting changes for our elocal magazine in its online format. Advertisers can now purchase banners on the site, and all their advertising whether it is print or online can be monitored with views, click throughs and impressions. More of those internet language specials. What it means is that even though we know that our readership is constantly growing and attracts nationwide coverage, as an advertiser you can now see that!

For this month, there is a special running on the first 30 banners that come on board, so if you are interested or just want to see how it can work for you business, or community group, (because it is incredibly cost effective for those with smaller budgets) drop me a line and I will get someone to be in touch. Advertising keeps elocal running, support your local community publication and keep it free.

Happy Reading!
