The Rural Vote. The Farmers Voice. Govt NOT Listening!

Trevor Simpson has been involved in farming for much of his life. The family farm, Simpson Farm dates back to 1964 when his Dad bought a small block which his lawyer warned was “undesirable” swampy bushland. Based in Rangiriri, North Waikato, it now milks over 1200 cows and claims to have the largest feed pad in the Waikato. The Simpsons have heavily invested in infrastructure to carry their family business into the future by protecting the land and environment, prioritising animal welfare and people but he strongly believes that the current political environment is destroying the industry and fears for its future unless things change. Watch the video above to hear more.

• Rural communities have got a lot smaller so Govt is not prioritising the sector.

• More interested in votes rather than the GDP of the rural backbone

• Compliance overreach – unrealistic outcomes therefore just not based on common sense

• Paid lobbying groups pandering to Govt and not listening to the farmers/growers i.e. Beef and Dairy assoc. Federated Farmers. Fonterra Etc
