What has been happening for the month of November.
It’s been an exciting few months for us with several projects we have been working on for a long time becoming reality.
Just a few weekends ago we joined residents at a community day to open a new playground in Kauri Reserve in Takanini. Located within a new housing area, the playground is designed for a range of ages to have fun and be challenged. What was great about this project was that the community had input in to the final design.
We also want to take time to recognise the efforts of the Friends of Kirks Bush which celebrates its 25th anniversary this month. Without them this hidden gem on the Great South Road would have never survived.
Planning for change
We’ve approved a concept plan to transform Smiths Ave Reserve - the culmination of more than a year’s work by a range of agencies, the council, the Southern Initiative, the Local Board and residents. At our August meeting we allocated funding to progress stage one of the plan and the design process.
The Smiths Ave project is not about bricks and mortar; it’s about transforming a community from within. The reserve’s redevelopment becomes a catalyst allowing the community to have a big say in leading the change.
The approval of the Papakura Metropolitan Framework for Action is another big milestone in our vision to see Papakura become a vibrant and prosperous metropolitan centre.
A major piece of work commissioned by the Papakura Commercial Project Group, the framework outlines 16 opportunities for action to realise that vision.
11 November – Armistice service beginning with the march of veterans to the cenotaph at 10.45am
2 December – Rotary Santa Parade starting at 3pm, travelling through the Papakura Town Centre
7 December - Carols in the Park, Central Park Papakura, pre-entertainment starting at 5.30pm.
