Rotary Club of Drury Trainee of the Year

Initiated by Drury Rotary in 1987, this award has been presented every year, with the exception of a couple to an outstanding local candidate.

As the name implies it was started with the aim of promoting young people in vocational training and the recipients have covered a range of occupations. Applicants need to be in the 18-30 age group and either live or work in the South Auckland area.

This year, the same high level of applicants was received, and a presentation was made on Monday June 10th at the Papakura Club.

The winner and recipient of the $5,000 prize was Kyle Rayner of Wattle Downs. Kyle is studying to become a commercial pilot at Southern Wings Aviation in Southland so was unfortunately unable to attend. The award was collected on his behalf by his proud parents and grandparents.

This year’s runner up was Reece Ewing, a Plumbing apprentice from Pukekohe. Drury Rotary found it hard to pick winners from such a talented pool of applicants and wish everyone that applied the best in their chosen profession. They are delighted to be able to reward young people for their endeavours in this way.
