Back in 1973 a significant milestone was reached when Champion Dragway opened at Meremere. Over the years, many milestones followed from various racers throughout the country and the world for that matter. In 2023, New Zealand’s first official purpose built quarter mile drag strip will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The anniversary of what is now NAPA Auto Parts Dragway celebrates how the Pukekohe Hot Rod Club constructed the facility and continued to maintain it to the present day.

The 50th anniversary milestone also celebrates the racers; the spectators, track workers/volunteers and also the sponsors over the years who have helped make NAPA Auto Parts Dragway the best place to race in New Zealand. There are many people specifically in the Pukekohe, surrounding Franklin areas and even wider Auckland and Waikato regions who will have at some point had something to do with the dragstrip.

The NAPA Auto Parts Dragway 50th Anniversary will be held over the weekend of April 14th, 15th & 16th 2023 and everyone is invited. Friday night things kick off with an open night at the Pukekohe Hot Rod club rooms for all to participate casually with a cash bar and a supper supplied. Saturday night’s formal dinner at the Pukekohe Cosmopolitian Club. Sunday is the open day at the dragstrip in Meremere celebrating the cars and the people who wrote history.
