The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread... Or More Cancer for Everyone?

For the last few months, controversy has swirled regarding the proposed 5G system for New Zealand after the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) warned that using Huawei equipment posed a security risk.

However, national mainstream media has somehow neglected to cover the extremely serious potential health and environmental effects of 5G.

As things stand, NZ’s future could include exposure to 5G from a terrestrial system and a space-based 5G system.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has proposed a 5G system that utilises a fleet of low earth orbit satellites. These satellites would subject the earth to a barrage of highly focussed beams of microwave radiation from space, leaving nowhere to hide for people who have become sensitised to this type of radiation - except perhaps in shielded housing. What’s more, the environmental effects of the multiple launches of satellites needed to sustain a spacebased 5G system could include ozone layer destruction and contamination of the upper atmosphere with soot. [1]

Given the potential health and environmental disaster from space-based 5G systems, an international appeal has been launched against this technology. [2]

While a space-based 5G system may be the ultimate in techno-narcissism, earth-based 5G is hardly better. The 5G system proposed for NZ would utilise a combination of microwave radiation plus millimetre waves. Microwave radiation was classified as a possible carcinogen by the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer in 2011 and in a 2018 article, Miller et al.argue that new research shows that this type of radiation should be reclassified as a Group 1 (proven) carcinogen. [3] Millimetre wave radiation is far from harmless and in fact has been exploited as a weapon by the US military. [4]

We, the public, are being promised that 5G would allow us to download movies really fast – but if you read the agendas of 5G proponents, it’s clear that 5G’s real purpose is to facilitate the “Internet of Things” (IOT) [5] and transform society into a digital dystopia – cleverly marketed as being the best thing since sliced bread, of course. (See: https://5grealised.com/agenda/)

Faced with the potential imposition of a technology that may increase New Zealand’s already high rate of cancer and other chronic illness, it’s not surprising that Kiwis are rejecting 5G. Indeed, the campaign to keep NZ 5G-Free is gathering momentum. You can learn more at http://www.5G.org.nz and https://www.facebook.com/5GFreeNewZealand/.
